What to expect
If you’re interested in coaching, contact me and, if you’re willing, provide a brief summary of what it is you’re looking for help with.
We’ll then schedule an initial conversation to discuss your coaching requirements and explore whether we wish to work together as coach and client.
If so, then the initial conversation will form the basis of our “coaching contract”, which will summarise:
-
the agreed aims for your coaching interaction,
-
the scope and boundaries of our coaching conversations, and
-
the default practical arrangements for our meetings.
Every coaching engagement is different, because it’s tailored to you as a person and to your professional needs.
Following standard coaching practice, I’d typically propose a ‘programme’ of around 6 meetings, culminating in a review of what you feel that coaching has delivered for you. The outcome of the review could be a decision to continue coaching, perhaps with an amended or new set of aims, to end coaching, or to seek an alternative form of personal support.

I trained and qualified as a coach in 2021-22 and have been coaching continuously since then. I’m a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and an EMCC Accredited Coach at Practitioner Level.
Working with an accredited coach gives you assurance of my adherence to recognised professional standards and best practice in coaching, including independent supervision and continuous professional development.
Engineering Career
My engineering career spanned more than 3 decades: carrying out and leading research programmes in semiconductor materials and devices, creating and leading new degree programmes in nanoscale science and technology, directing an interdisciplinary research centre, working with the semiconductor, photonics, energy and transport industry sectors, and holding overall responsibility for a community of ~900 staff and students as Head of the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Leeds.
